Health Benefits of Drinking Wheatgrass

Wheatgrass helath benefits

Wheatgrass refers to young grasses of grain plants that are cut and freeze-dried to produce a potent food supplement. It contains chlorophyll, a green pigment found in plants. It contains several important antioxidants, including glutathione and vitamins C and E.

Wheatgrass is an excellent source of different vitamins and minerals. It is especially high in vitamins A, C, and E, as well as iron, magnesium, calcium, and amino acids. Of its 17 amino acids, eight are considered essential, meaning your body cannot produce them and you must obtain them from food sources.

Popularity of Wheatgrass

The popularity of Wheatgrass started in the 1930s when an Agricultural Chemist, Charles Schnabel, conducted an experiment with young grasses to nurse dying hens, as a result of his experiment the hens recovered and produced more eggs than the healthy hens. Since then numerous scientific research studies have been conducted on the nutritional components of Wheatgrass.

Wheatgrass promotes a strong immune system, healthy digestion, and healthy skin. It fights free radicals and inflammation and may prevent cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and joint problems.  Wheatgrass is sold commercially in different variants: powder, tablet, and juice.

Often called "the fountain of youth" Wheatgrass fights the early sign of aging as it acts as a scavenger of toxins in the body that trigger premature aging, dryness of skin, and blemishes. It also protects the skin from pollution attacks.

King Charles III, a known environmentalist and nature conservationist who strongly supports organic farming, has been a Wheatgrass juice drinker ever since he was a teenager. The Prince's Trust strongly supported the Wheatgrass for Life organization.
